

The principal of Shoreline Design Group, Inc., Bernhard Thuersam, CPBD, NCIDQ Certified, brings a very unique and varied background to the firm's capabilities of residential building design and community planning. With over 30 years of experience in the interior design, building design and architectural fields, his expertise assures Shoreline clients a very high level of design ability and service, plus a wide range of professional capabilities.
Mr. Thuersam's professional work prior to founding Shoreline in 1988 included the design of time-share resorts, health clubs, banks, retail/restaurant facilities as well as high-end residential interiors, landscape design, environmental planning and residential building design. His most recent and current projects are custom single home design in the various plantations in eastern North Carolina, as well as community planning projects in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. His specific expertise is in golf-course and resort-oriented homes, amenities design, community/neighborhood planning and writing architectural review guidelines for residential developments.
His professional recognition includes a 1999 American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) national "First Place Commercial Category Award" for his renovation of the Wellington Square office complex in Wilmington, North Carolina and a 1995 national AIBD "Design Excellence Award" for the St. James Plantation Beach Club in Long Beach, North Carolina. He earned the 1996 AIBD/North Carolina Society "Designers Choice Award" for his Avant Residence in Landfall, and the 1997 AIBD/North Carolina Society "Best Custom Home Award" for his Brady Residence, also in Landfall. Mr. Thuersam has also received awards for "Best Design" in several categories in the 1994 AIBD/North Carolina Society design competition and has consistently won "Best Design Awards" in the annual Wilmington/Cape Fear Parade of Homes for his unique custom homes, builder speculative homes and multi-family developments.
Mr. Thuersam is certified by the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC) and the National Council of Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ). He holds undergraduate degrees in environmental and interior design from the State University of New York and Villa Maria College, respectively, with graduate study in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning, Historic Preservation and Interior Design at the University of Georgia.

Christopher L. Pendill, CPBD has served as the Director of CADD Operations at Shoreline Design Group, Inc. since August 2000 and is responsible for the production of our detailed construction documents and specifications, engineering review, and 3D modeling projects.
Mr. Pendill holds undergraduate degrees in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Architectural Technology from Pitt County Community College. He is acknowledged as one of the most proficient and expert computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) technicians in the region, and is adept at creating three-dimensional models for clients with the highly-acclaimed Sketch-Up software system.
Mr. Pendill is qualified as a Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) through examination by the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC).
